Optimus 5R Stove
Known originally as the Model 7 until 1972 when
designation was changed to the 5R. The pressure release
was moved from the side of the filler spigot to the top
of the filler cap. The tank was stamped No.5, the only
difference between the #5 and 5R being the adjustable
burner.
The #205 burner is the standard silent burner, the
Model 7 and 5R used the now obsolete #207 burner, the
adjustable, self cleaning version of the #205.
The #5R was discontinued in the early 1980's but #207
burners were still available for some time because they
were fitted to Optimus Marine stoves.
In the 1990's the #207 burner became too expensive to
produce and the #9007 burner was introduced to replace
it. This was a bottom feed version of the #9000 burner
fitted to the model 11 stove. Being a solid casting it is
more difficult to preheat and in Marine stoves a wick is
fitted in the preheater cup to prevent the spirit from
boiling, this maintains the heat of the spirit.
Not as attractive as the older #207 burner the #9007 can
be fitted to worn out Model 7 and 5R stoves but will be
difficult to preheat properly without the wick causing
persistant flaring.
Production of the #5 was discontinued in 1995
Specified as an option in Marine stoves was the now
obsolete #209 burner, this burner was a machined casting
preceeding the #9007 by thirty years..! Jetted to run on
alcohol this was often the choice for Marine stoves and
was fitted as standard in the model 535A two burner
stove.
